The Daryle Van Horn Most Dedicated Player award will be given to the member who shows the most dedication to all things VFD Hockey : be it MMH, Smokeaters, Wed, Fri, tourneys and so on. Retired Capt Van Horn embraced all of these, while being one of the nicest, caring and accepting people one could ever hope to meet. DVH had many handles, but “Double Barrell Daryle” had determination & grit to be the best he could be. His positive impact on members was vast, not only at hockey but on the job as well. His kind spirit will last for decades and certainly inspire some to be better themselves. Daryle passed away in 2024
The Clifford “Neil” Smith Playoff MVP award will be given to the player who is deemed most valuable to his team during the Gump Cup Championship. Retired Capt Smith, aka “Smitty” was a true builder of our club , a visionary and believed that every member should be accepted and have a place to play, no matter their skill level or seniority. Neil was an architect of the VFD Monday League, and the brainchild behind the Gump Cup to honor his friend Ranny MacDonald. Neil loved all things VFD hockey, especially the dressing room beers and the road trips, for which he organized some epic ones. He left us in 2020 but we will never forget his amazing legacy. We can’t think of a grander stage than the Gump Cup to have an award in his honor.
Al Rittinger Regular Season Champion Trophy : awarded to the team that finishes on top of the standings for Monday Morning Hockey Regular Season (most points). Gump Cup Playoff Champions : Awarded to the team who wins the Monday Morning Hockey playoffs aka Gump Cup. Named in honour of retired Lt. Ranny “Gump” MacDonald, who played hockey his entire life, prior to joining the VFD. Ranny was tough but not a bully, and an excellent firefighter. Ranny loved the job & the game but was cut short & forced into early retirement due to his battle with ALS, from which he passed away in 2003.
